The challenges offered by your organization can vary based on your student body count and number of instructors your studio has. However, basic challenges like lessons taken in a week or a combination of groups, privates, and weekly social dance parties in a week can be offered in any school of almost any size.
If your studio has enough students and instructors, Team Challenges can be formed. Team Challenges are a great way to introduce students to each other and expedite the learning process for them.
Each instructor leads a team that competes in basic challenges and may have to learn a 60-90 second routine to be performed at a social dance party.
The students win slippers equally and the instructor can win retail items, cash, or both.
Challenges can also increase your Guest-Getting campaigns and event enrollment.
Challenges also apply for the instructors. The prizes for them are primarily cash incentive based.

Examples of Ballroom Dance Challenges
Ex. Weekly Individual or Couple Lesson Challenge:
Objective: Number of lessons taken in one week
1 – Lesson = 1 *Glass Slipper = reward: no prize for just one slipper but they do add up.
2 – Lessons = 5 Glass Slippers = prizes: Shoe brush, 1 Tier-1 Hair Accessory, 1 Studio Logo note pad.
3 – Lessons = 15 Glass Slippers = prizes: 1 shoe rental, Tier-2 Hair Accessory, 1 Saturday Night Party into for 2.
4 – Lessons = 30 Glass Slippers = prizes:
5 – Lessons = 50 Glass Slippers = prizes: 1 Group Lesson, 1 Prv. Floor Time (shared), 1 pair of Tier-2 dance shoes
*Glass Slipper reward is the icon my studio uses as a reward symbol and the rewards are monitored through our gamified platform on our website. However, the icon itself is irrelevant and simply a personal choice.
Team Weekly Lesson Challenge:
The Team Lesson events are based on grand totals of lessons taken by the team members. Prizes are awarded according to the score the teams reach.
Show Your Instructor Some Love Challenge:
One of my favorite challenges is for the instructors, it is called “Show Your Instructor Some Love” challenge. This challenge gives students points or rewards for tipping their instructor through a Venmo or the like platform, to process and record it.
Teachers will love this once-a-month challenge. It is important to not have it every week, then it becomes un-special. Students should be allowed to tip their instructor(s) if they wish anyway.
Month-Long Challenge:
The Month-long challenges are fun too. Try planning them around special events like, competitions or showcases.
The month-long challenge would consist of many different mini-events and things like signing up for showcase events or competition package.
These challenges are special; therefore, the students receive premium rewards.
*Top rewards should be shoes, gowns, shirts, Latin pants, robes and other dance related items. Because of Temu.com, studios can afford to get nice gifts like this much cheaper than ever before.
*Not everyone will receive shoes or gowns in the challenge. Only the top ten would get prizes like these.
Putting a money into the package to cover the cost of the prizes is how you afford your generosity. By putting $50 in every package will more than cover the cost of all the rewards.
Having high quality prizes in a challenge makes a student excited and want to participate. Your business is a reflection of you, therefore, if you are going to do something then do it with class.
The Showcase Challenge
Is a challenge only for those students who just finished dancing in a showcase. This an appreciation challenge from the studio to the students who made the show a success.
If you tailor your showcase using the Amazing Dance Solutions Showcase Format, you will get a lot more people attending the production and you will make a lot more money. I do not like putting my showcase on in the studio, it isn’t as dynamic usually.
You may have this incredible school with tons of floor space and plenty of seating, a lighting crew, and professional sound engineer, but if not, I suggest any type of convention room catering.
Make your Showcase a big deal for the school and the community. It only seems like a huge task until you dig a little deeper and realize there are people eager to help you have a successful production.
