Dancing won’t save the World, but it won’t destroy it either
If you love music and how it makes you feel inside, well dancing is how music makes you feel on the outside. — H Mikel Feilen

I love a vast variety of music. The house I was brought up in loved music; my father and mother were Big Band fans, my older sisters loved Elvis and the Beatles, and by high school I was into Santana, Grand Funk Railroad, and Tower of Power.
My parents would dance to Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw songs in our living room. My older sisters practiced every new and latest dance craze that came out on me, from the Twist to the Swim.
When I first went to college, I was a Music Major. One year later, I changed my major to Dance. Even though my Dad loved to dance, he couldn’t see the future in my choice.
I then told Dad two things to help him be more positive about my decision. One, I was offered a full scholarship if I would change my major, and two, I still liked girls.
However, I did tell my Dad that I was straight, but this was just the first year in dance; you never know what strange things may happen.
He didn’t think that was too funny!

There is nothing as fulfilling as completing the circle of music and movement; taking the music in audibly and letting it out physically.
Over the past fifty years of dancing as a student, instructor, and competitor, I have come to understand that dancing is the physical manifestation of music, serving as a form of healing through expression.
Taking dance lessons to learn the basics of several fun dances is a great hobby for anyone to enjoy. Often, students crave the next Saturday Night social dance party at their studio just so they can relieve the stress of the week.
More people need to learn this amazing social skill, ballroom dancing. It brings smiles to your face and laughter to your voice. It is very hard to remain depressed while dancing.
However, stopping and sitting down can bring back the blues.
I suggest a Tango!
You can thank me later!

Now, if you think you cannot learn to dance because you either have the Two-Left-Feet Disability or the Can’t-Hear-the-Beat Syndrome, or even worse – both – I am here to poo-poo that!
Dancing is nothing more than organized walking but with a specific beat.
By the way, if a person can hear the music, they can hear the beat. The beat is part of the music. What they cannot do is recognize the beat. That can be cured.
However, having the two left feet problem may require a saw and a lot of liquor.
Music, dancing, and lots of people having fun and sharing their passion is one of the best ways to spend an evening. At least it is for me.
Give Dance a Chance!
